Spring break 2009

This year spring break was so much fun. Dr. Wang, a professor from the psychology department organized a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his graduate students and he asked our Teninkling group whether we are interested in joining them. I totally jumped at this chance because I can get away from o'boring Oxford and enjoy the sun. The trip is totally free but our group need to pay $50 as a deposit. The reason for the deposit is that Dr.Wang wants us to help him with his research project. The project was pretty easy, at least for my part. All we need to do is translate the Chinese paper into English and then correct their grammar which I think does not require any thinking.

Here are the highlights of my trip:
Highlight No 1: Going to Charleston, South Carolina.

We decided to visit Teresa relatives down in Charleston and they were our tourist guides. This place is so homey and so wonderful. There is a path that you can walk along the beach and the enjoy the scenery. Battery Park was also the highlight of Charleston where the trees form a canopy. There are so much history in this place that I cannot even describe.

Highlight No2: Playing mini-golf.
Mini golf or aka putt-putt. There were so many putt-putt places at Myrtle beach that we did not know which one to go to. Our group chose the first putt-putt place that we saw and it was a very good choice. The course was pretty challenging but I managed to breeze through it. Although I did not win, but it was a good experience nonetheless. [I don't have pictures for this]

Highlight No.3: Clubbing

As usual, the group of us decided to go clubbing. We went to two club; Kyrptonite and Maribu club. The Kyrptonite club had Yin-Yang twins performing. I haven't heard of Yin-Yang twins before too. Their songs were not the best songs. I only have a word to say for this club: SHADY and SUPER PACKED. It is ironic how they are called Yin-Yang twins...

Maribu was a unique club to go to. The songs were pretty good but the club-goers were pretty much in their 30's. It feels weird seeing them partying at the club but it is Myrtle Beach, and everybody is enjoying their spring break.

Highlight No4: All-you-can-eat seafood buffet
It has been a long time since I last ate a seafood buffet and this was the perfect time to do so. They had a wide variety of seafood and even serve Alaskan crabs, mussels, and HUGE LA-LA. I felt that I was in paradise. haha.

Highlight No5: Myrtle beach and Broadway at the Beach
This beach was fun but we did not spend too much time there. Maybe it was because we went to a private beach. If it was a public beach, my perspective would have change. Broadway at the Beach was better. They had rows of small shops selling souvenirs and stuff. I took some pictures at Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe. I even brought shirts there too.

randoms

This semester has been very topsy-turvy for me. I feel lonely because my roommate has left for Korea and my sister studied abroad in Beijing. But, I still have friends that can keep me occupied especially the Teninkling group. It is amazing how close we have been after practicing for a year once a week. We were not so close to each other before this dance but now we are like a close knit group. Anyway, this semester has been going well for me accept my Accounting classes which I think is extremely hard. Taking 18 credits a semester can be very hectic and been noticing that. [This is so random]
Throughout the semester, I think I regret not doing 2 things. Firstly is applying to become a Resident Advisor (RA). RA is in charge of resident life. They are like a big brother to the students living in dorms. The best part of being a RA is that you get paid like $7000 a month and you get to meet new people living in your corridor. How cool is that? The next thing that I regret not doing is applying for POL or Leadershape. POL is Peer Orientation Leader(POL) for short..For more information about POL see my previous post. As for Leadershape, I think that this program is good to build my confidence level. My sister said that Leadershape was a good eye-opener and I think I would benefit from that program. I totally forgot about these two programs that I book my flight ticket back home so late. I dunno why I did that, but I just did and now I think it is too late to change my flight. Oh well, at least I can be home for a longer period of time.
